Psalms and Proverbs

Up till now we have been looking at history - but the Bible contains many kinds of writing - this week we get introduced to two new kinds of Biblical writing - poetry and wisdom literature.

The Psalms are basically written to express deep truth about God and his world. The person who wrote most of the Psalms - and many say the best - was King David. Over previous studies we have seen some of David's success and failures. But in these readings we get a great glimpse of how he felt. And as you will see David had an incredible feeling for expressing his feelings, both to us and to God. The passages will remind us of King David;s unique blend of talents; he was a shepherd, warrior, administrator, politician, spiritual leader and poet all in one!

The Book of Proverbs, on the other hand, is a collection of wise sayings primarily written by King Solomon. Proverbs breaks down into two basic sections: Chapters 1-9 are an extended father to son teachings on godly wisdom, while Chapters 10-31 are a collection of statements each expressing a spiritual truth in a memorable way.

Get ready to discover why Psalms and Proverbs have become two of the Bible's most popular books.
